hope you had a great summer! We did 🙂 ! I was honoured to receive the Frankfurt Jazz Scholarship 2017, especially being only the third guitarist after Russ Spiegel and Martin Lejeune to be awarded in almost three decades.
Thank you City of Frankfurt!
This Summer we played a couple of nice concerts including Stoffel and Sommerwerft are two two amazing festivals that were both originally theatre festivals but have grown into multicultural gatherings, and we were honoured to be a part of it!
Last but not least – it’s great to hear that the film “Freibadfonfonie / Blue Summer Symphony” by Sinje Köhler, with music conposed by me, has been nominated for the Student Academy Awards, the Student Oscars: http://www.oscars.org/news/meet-2017-student-academy-awards-finalists
Here is the end credits track, recorded by Markus Wach, Martin Standke and me and mixed by Moritz Laux:
Fingers crossed for the Oscars 🙂
Till then, sincerely
we’ve just arrived back from a one week tour that lead us through south and central India.
For me as a musician and a human being who’s deeply connected to indian culture and music, it was an incredibly inspring experience to play my music to an indian audience.
We started out on February 28th in Chennai with a very well received concert at the Goethe Institute auditorium with featured guest and old friend Vijay Natesan on Mridangam. Next was a day at the studio in Pune where we recorded parts of the upcoming new album of my group, together with harmonium player Santosh Ghante. On March 2nd we performed at the Shisha Cafe in Pune which is one of my favourite jazz venues in India. March 3rd saw us play at Sinhgad Institute Amphitheatre in Lonavala together with a group of Hindustani Classical musicians including Santosh Ghante on harmonium, Pandit Sanjay Garud on vocals and Manoj Kadam on tabla. The auditorium was packed with an 800 plus audience who made this concerte a really memorable experience for us.
On March 4th, we flew to Hyderabad for our final performance of that tour. That night, we played in a stunningly beautiful setting in the garden of Hyderabad Sailing Annexe together with Carnatic vocalist Varijashree Venugopal.
This tour was a dream coming true for me, and at the same time it was so well received by audiences that we hope to be back in India as soon as we can, possibly even this year.
Love and Namaste,
